2009 Color of the Year : Mimosa
(For those of you up-to-date on your color trends this post might be a little dated)
If you don’t read nerdy blogs like I do you might not know that ‘Mimosa’ is the color of the year, as declared by Pantone. I would say this company that has the most credibility to ‘predict’ color trends, but really how do they predict?
I have to say I was a little shaky on their color prediction, yellow was gaining major popularity in 2008 and I wasn’t sure how progressive this color was. Quite frankly I thought it was a little ‘last year’… until I read the reasons for Mimosa (directly from Pantone)…
“…In a time of economic uncertainty and political change, optimism is paramount and no other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow…”
“…Best illustrated by the abundant flowers of the Mimosa tree and the sparkle of the brilliantly hued cocktail, the 2009 color of the year represents the hopeful and radiant characteristics associated with the color yellow…”
“The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”
I stand behind the color choice now. Are you sold? Participate on our facebook!
