When developing a web site do you always take bandwidth, compression and HTTP requests into consideration?

For those of you solely relying on WYSIWYG editors or popular frameworks to crank out your site, note that you may be over looking a large portion of true web site optimization.

 High Performance Web Site, an O’Reilly publication discusses in depth the fine art of web site front-end engineering. Although many of the topics should seem elementary to a seasoned developer, I did some poking around the net and found most sites could be better optimized using many of the techniques listed in the book.

Anyways, the book is a good recommendation for those new to the industry or as a refresher.
