Since the mainstream release of solid state hard drives(at an affordable cost), I have stated that “within the next 10 years, solid state drives(SSD) will be the standard.” I still stick by that statement. Okay, I have decided to post my opinions on the debate between Microsoft(www.microsoft.com) and Apple(www.apple.com) on who has the better Operating System(OS). First, let me say that as an IT professional it is important to understand both platforms. Each OS has a significant market share holding. As it stands, all systems that have been “frozen” with deep freeze™ by Faronics™ have sustained reliability. By having set the hard drive in a perpetual state of Read-only permissions, the system has become impervious to malware. When ever a malicious instance has occurred, rebooting the system resolved any problems. Minimal disk cleanup and defragmentation is needed due to the fact that no data has been retained. Furthermore, disk storage consumption has been kept to a minimum.

Maintaining the stability and functionality of public access computers is an on going process. Due to the nature of the multi-user access kiosks; temporary cached information, constant updates and the ever present dangers of malware can render as system virtually unusable. So …. we headed out to find a possible alternative to the inherited threats to the public access kiosk. (more…)
